THREE WOMEN ONE WITH BLONDE HAOR, ONE WITH RED HAIR AND ONE WITH BROWN HAIR WALKING TO WORK TOGETHER AND DISCUSSING WORKPLACE ANXIETY AND HOW SUPPORT WITH THE POWER OF CONNECTIONS CAN HELP REDUCE IT

Workplace anxiety support and the power of connection at work

Workplace anxiety support often starts with connection, not coping alone. If it is your first day back at work from the Christmas break then you may have “the fear”. That anxious feeling we all get when we have been off for a couple of weeks. “Will I be going back to 100 emails of complaining customer?”, “How will I get all my deliveries done in this weather?”, or maybe you work from home and are just not getting the motivation to start today.

However you are learning to manage anxiety at work, it helps to remember that humans are not built to cope alone. Anxiety can grow when everything stays locked inside your own head.

Many people stay silent at work because they fear judgment or think that they are being silly. They worry about looking weak or unreliable. Ironically, this silence can make your anxiety worse.

Anxiety feels louder when you feel alone

If no one knows you are struggling, your mind can fill in the gaps with worst-case scenario thoughts. Things like “oh I will get fired because I didn’t get this finished before Christmas”, or “I will lose money because I cannot get all these orders packed up and delivered in one week”.

This happens in every workplace! Whether you work in a team, or you have a leadership role, or even self employed work. The main thing to remember to reach out before you get to burn out!

Choose one safe person

You do not need to tell everyone. One trusted colleague, manager, or friend is enough. If you are a business owner you may find this support outside of your organisation. Find other like minded business owners on a social media group or a networking group.

Knowing someone understands can reduce pressure immediately. I guarantee you are not the only one today who feels like this!

Ask for practical support

Support is not just emotional. It might mean adjusting your deadlines, sharing your workload, or clarifying client expectations. Managing anxiety at work improves when support leads to action, not just sympathy.

Stay connected without over explaining

Share what works for managing your anxiety with others without feeling like you have to overshare your own situation. A healthy connection feels safe, not exposing, and you may just help brighten up someone else’s day as well.

Managing anxiety at work often begins with allowing yourself to be human with the right people. Who will you lighten your anxiety load with today? One of the best ways is to go for a short walk with a hot drink and a colleague or friend at lunchtime.
