Frequently asked questions
This is where you can find out more details about therapy and whether you think it is right for you. If you have a question and it has not been answered here – then please send an e mail to info@wendycastelino.com
I believe that therapy is a partnership between two people. Therapy is designed to be tailored to your individual needs. It is best to think about what is your goal in therapy so that there is a focus. Counselling is more of a supportive environment where the person may want to talk through a problem. Therapy tends to be more intense and more skills based.
The sessions usually last for an hour. There is some flexibility around this - for example - younger people sometimes prefer shorter sessions. It is possible to have longer sessions if desired.
The most important factor, in my opinion, is the relationship you have with a therapist. I would expect you to trust them, feel comfortable with them and for the therapist to want to have the best outcome for you. The second factor is evidence of competency. This could be looking at whether the therapist has met certain standards. This can be measured by an accreditation process. Wendy is accredited as a CBT therapist and an EMDR therapist.
Some people prefer therapy face to face. I have two options - an office in Kettering and a consulting room which is residential. Nowadays therapy can work just as well remotely. There are also some benefits - it allows you to choose from a wider variety of therapists. You don't have to travel and you can have therapy in the comfort of your own home.
Therapy can be expensive as you are paying for the therapist's competency. Usually the greater the experience and the more qualified, the more expensive the therapy. At Mind Matters costs is taken into consideration and additional resources are available to enhance the process. In addition there are resources available on this website. In addition it might be possible to have therapy paid for if you have insurance with your work.
